The History of Network Marketing
1800s The history of network marketing can be formally traced back to the 1800s. During this time it became common for companies to use door to door sales people to sell their products.
1900s In the early 1900s the Fuller Brush company was created by Alfred Fuller. The Fuller Brush Company became the starting point for other network marketing companies, as detailed below.
A multi level marketing company named Mary Kay (perhaps you’ve heard of it?), as well as Jafra Cosmetics, Tupperware, and Home Interiors all were born from the success of the Fuller Brush Company. The founders of each of these companies each began their network marketing training with Fuller Brush, and developed their businesses around the model set forth by Mr. Fuller.
Frank Stanley Beveridge, a former vice president of the Fuller Brush Company, had a great desire to help others become financially stable after the Great Depression. Although product sales are mandatory to create success in a multi level marketing business, the key to true success is to create leverage by building a team of others who become business partners. Through the efforts of a combined group of marketers, large volumes of product are distributed.
Traditionally, only about two percent of network marketers have been able to achieve true time and financial freedom in the network marketing industry. They’re not looking for a change, and the only dreaming they allow themselves to do occurs while they sleep. In reality, whether they care to admit it or not, they’re scared to death to move out of their comfort zones to do something that could be truly remarkable.
Here lies the problem. Throughout the history of network marketing, relationships have been key. People don’t join businesses with others that they have no relationship with. Yet, many of our everyday relationships are with people who don’t necessarily share the vision, courage, or determination to create the lives we all want and deserve.
What typically happens is something like this,
A person joins a multi level marketing company, encouraged and excited about the products, the opportunity, and the company.
He or she approaches family and friends with enthusiasm, sure that they’ll see the incredible potential to create a better life and join them in business right away.
Rather than appreciation and acceptance, the network marketer is met with discouraging remarks from family and friends, resistance, and rejection. His or her loved ones may mock their choice to get into a multi level marketing company.
All too often, the initial excitement and belief turn to doubt, insecurity, and hopelessness. Fear takes over, everything seems more difficult than had been expected, and it seems as if it was all just a big mistake. Quitting seems like the best choice.
2000s Those of us living in the twenty first century have witnessed incredible growth and changes made to the history of network marketing. Technological advancements have opened the doors of opportunity to the 98 percent of network marketers who historically have been unable to make it in this industry.

Advanced features within social media sites make it simple to connect with others who are on the same wave length. Once a connection is established and a friendship is formed, the foundation has been laid to open the door to potential business relationships.
The key here is to be genuine, authentic, and giving. Much like any other type of friendship, if you’re just looking to use people you will fail!
