If you are looking for a set of forged German like knives with a great quality, but don’t want to pay the premium price that generally are associated with them. Then this Anolon 15-Piece knife set could be what you are praying for. Anolon is a leading brand in the market for cookware and also makes a good line of kitchen knives that are a little less known. However, don’t let the fact that the Anolon knives are not as well known as Wusthof or Henckels deceives you. The quality of the knives in the Advanced line doesn’t have almost anything to envy to these more prestigious brands on the cutlery market and that is without mention the price.
Anolon sells this line in a 15-piece block set, item number 52588. This set has almost any knife than you can possibly want for your kitchen, even a set of steak knives. It includes an 8-inch chef’s, an 8-inch bread, an 8-inch slicer, a 7-inch santoku, a 5-inch serrated utility, 3.5-inch parer, six 5-inch steak knives, a honing steel, kitchen scissors, and a wood block.
In general the Anolon Advanced knives are a little in the heavy side. But they have a good balance and feel good in your hand. The blades are thick, in the tradition of forged German knives, and have a serious edge that remains sharp for a long time. Besides the chef’s knives come with bolster and have a full tang, another hint of a high quality set of knives.
The handles of the Anolon Advanced knives are made of Santoprene. This synthetic material resembles silicon and it is soft and warm on your hand. They provide a comfortable grip and permit you an excellent precision and control while cutting. However, not all these knives come with the Santoprene handle. The steak knives have a stainless steel handle instead. This is maybe the only objection that I have to the set. It would have been nice that all the knives had the same handle. Having said that, the steak knives are well made with a smooth blade, instead of the serrated blades you find in cheaper kitchen knife lines.
Also as expected of a serious brand as Anolon, this knife set has a limited lifetime warranty. Definitively, this 15-piece Advanced Set could be a worthy addition to your kitchen. They have a quality similar to premium kitchen knives, that can stand a lot of abuse, but with a price more than reasonably for the quality.
