People with high blood pressure keep these machines handy so they can keep records of their blood pressure readings. These records help their physicians to adjust their levels of medication. Before the home machines were invented the only way to take your blood pressure was with a cuff, and stethoscope, and that required you having another person at the house that was trained to use the equipment.
• Blood glucose monitors allow diabetics to check the amount of sugar that is in their blood. They use these readings to keep logs for their doctors, and to adjust the amount of insulin they inject into their bodies.
• Nebulizers are used to give people breathing treatments. These units are used by people who suffer chronic breathing conditions like asthma, and COPD. The nebulizer turns the medication into a mist that the patient can inhale.
• Wheelchairs are equipment that are now so common to see that we forget they were once only seen in hospitals, and medical facilities.
• Crutches are rudimentary medical supplies to help people who have a sprain, or strain.
• Intravenous supplies to allow medications to be delivered through the veins of the patient are now available to people who have home health care nurses caring for their needs.
• Defibrillators can now be purchased by homeowners where they were once only able to be purchased by clinics, and hospitals.
• Walkers help people to stabilize themselves so they can retain mobility for longer periods of time.
• Shower chairs, and accessories that are designed to help people prevent accidents in the tub are sold in medical supply shops.
• Medical gloves to protect you from contamination are readily available in medical supply shops.
• Bathroom aids like raised toilets and bars to help you stand from the toilet are readily available in medical supply shops.
• Pulse oximeters are now available to the general public.
• Lift chairs, geriatric hip chairs, knee walkers, and other devices to help people stand easier, and be more mobile in their homes.
Many people do not realize how many medical supplies are sold each year, or how many supply companies are actually selling these items. The majority of us never think of these items until someone in our family develops a need for them. There are a lot of supplies, machines, and accessories sold at medical supply stores that help people to live more comfortably in their homes.
There are a lot of conditions that at one time were sentences that made a person give up their freedom and their homes. Today most of those conditions can be treated at home with the use of readily available medical supplies.
