As your affiliate marketing business grows, you’ll want to expand your marketing mix to include more advanced affiliate marketing strategies, and one powerful tool you should add is the use of online webinars in your affiliate marketing efforts.
Your experience to date as a professional online marketer has probably included attending these live online events, usually referred to as webinars or webcasts. While these can take many forms, there are two formats most commonly used in Internet and affiliate marketing – PowerPoint slide shows used to illustrate the points being made by the presenter or live demonstrations of procedures, software, memberships sites and the like.
Either is easy to produce, and the webcasting service makes the live broadcast available to viewers over the Internet accompanied by streaming audio or via telephone access for the audio portion, but in either case the video is streamed live online. To ensure the sound quality is the best for recording purposes, be sure that as the presenter or co-presenter you’re using a digital audio headset connected to your computer via a USB port. Older analog mics & headsets (those with the 1/8″ mini-plug or RCA jacks) may still work, but be sure to test them with the webcasting service you use before using them in a live webinar.
Plan your affiliate marketing webinar well in advance. Will you be the only presenter, are you interviewing another marketer or are you to be the one interviewed? If you have a co-presenter, what are their strengths and weaknesses, and how do those fit with yours? Be sure too that you’re both on the same page as to what product or service is being promoted through the webcast, and have a clear picture of what content will be delivered that’s relevant to that product or service.
As a general rule, aim for a webcast format that gives 55 minutes of powerful, helpful and actionable information, followed by a five-minute pitch for the affiliate offer being pushed. It’s important to both demonstrate your expertise and provide valuable assistance to your audience, enough so that they come away impressed whether they buy your product today or not. Remember, you’re a professional affiliate marketer, not just a salesman, and you’ll make more sales down the road if you’re building your rep as a helpful expert in your niche at all times.
Work with the merchant whose product or service you’re promoting to come up with some sort of a sustainable special offer – or if you can’t arrange that, build a great bonus you can continue to give away to those who purchase through your affiliate link. Remember that this can help you convert more viewers to buyers at the end of the live call, but also bring you in residual sales through those who access the webinar recording at any future date. Also make sure the final screen has the link you want them to follow spelled out clearly – your audience is worldwide and to some of them you’ve got quite an accent, so have the link there for them to see and copy down.
After the event, your affiliate marketing webinar takes on a dual role as a recording. First, it continues to deliver your webcast to anyone who views it, including your special offer at the end. And second, when put into your funnel behind a squeeze page it becomes a powerful incentive to help build your opt-in list. Use article marketing, social bookmarking, networking sites, your affiliate marketing blogs and all the rest of your affiliate techniques to promote the webinar recording, directing people to your squeeze page to collect their copy of the event recording.
During and after every affiliate marketing webinar you do, pay particular attention to the feedback you get, both from your audience and from any co-hosts or interviewees you had on the webcast. Use that feedback to improve your next affiliate marketing webinars, and soon you’ll be an old pro who can harness the power of live online events and turn them to your advantage at any time it’s advantageous to your affiliate marketing business.
